Sharks

He came with the continuum of the waves

the to and fro hitting our backs

spotlighted by the sun

leaving our pores the only escape for fear.

A single fin slicing the surface

smelling the X chromosomes

the suntan lotion

listening to the swelling blood

the heavy stench of his own breath

Held down by the chains of your own fear

drowned by the hands that were unfamiliar

choked by the scream that never left your lips.

Then there were the waves

the to and fro hitting your body

hands and feet in the sand

the sea scarring your cheeks

the hunger he fulfilled with your body

the tears he left for you to sew

as he escaped back into the sea

for all we saw was a fin

and all we heard was the skinny silence that was left
